Notes: | Review of "The letters of Amerigo Vespucci, and other documents illustrative of his career. Translated, with notes and an introduction, by Clements R. Markham" (Hakluyt Society, v. 90); and "The voyage from Lisbon to India, 1505-6. Being an account and journal by Albericus Vespuccius. Translated from the contemporary Flemish, and edited with a prologue and notes by C.H. Coote." The reviewer identifies the supposed "account and journal by Vespuccius" as a garbled Flemish version of Balthasar Springer's Latin account of the Almeida expedition, published by Jan van Doesborch, Antwerp, 1508. The Latin account was printed for the first time by Martene and Durand in their "Voyage litteraire de deux religieux benedictins de la Congregation de a Maur," Paris, 1724, from a manuscript, formerly in possession of Baron Guillaume de Crassier, now in the Universitätsbibliothek Giessen. Cf. B. Springer's Indienfahrt ... von F. Schultze, Strassburg 1902. "Only two hundred and fifty copies are printed"--Title page verso. List of author's other books: pages 69-72. Thacher, II, p. 20 (Americana)
