The article, to which reply is here made, appeared in the Historical magazine for Jan. 1871 (2d. ser., v.9, p. 52-54) and was written undoubtedly by the editor, Henry B. Dawson. It was mainly a criticism of "Conventions of the inhabitants of the New Hampshire grants in opposition to the claims of New York." pub. in the society's Collections, v. 1, p. 1-66.
The "Vindication" was reprinted with notes and a letter to the author H.B. Dawson in the Historical magazine for July 1871, 2d ser., vol. 10, p. 49-69.
