Summary:	In France, on the night before Epiphany children carry lanterns and sing a special song. At each house they are given nuts, raisins, apples, and coins. Three boys are carrying their lanterns together. Gaston and Vincent Brissard are brothers and have a mother and father, but Terry is an orphan who was placed in the Brissard home by the welfare office. At each stop, Gaston takes Terry's gifts for his own. Terry doesn't protest because life is like that. The next day, Epiphany, the Brissards will have a big feast with many guests. At the end of the meal, they will share the King's Cake, and whoever finds the lucky piece will be king for the day. Early in the morning, Terry has the first of three strokes of luck that mark the special day for him.
