Notes: | Sabin 39923. The King's Council of the province of South Carolina having refused to pass certain currency bills, proposed by William Henry Drayton, and Drayton having caused his protest against such action to be printed in the official Gazette, the printer, Thomas Powell, was arrested upon the order of Sir Egerton Leigh, president of the Council. Out of this unwarranted act grew the controversy reviewed in the "Considerations", and the "Answer to Considerations on certain political transactions of the province of South Carolina", the latter supposed by Edw. McCrady, Hist. of South Carolina under the royal government, 1899, p. 722, to be by Drayton. Microfilm. Negative.
