Summary: | The art collection was dispersed around 1598 when the last direct descendant of the Este famiy, the Duke Alfonso II died in 1597 without a direct heir. A feud ensued among the prospective heirs, and major works of art were moved to Modena and Frascati from 1598 onwards.
