According to Grove's Dictionary of music, but one copy of that impression is now known. The preface is signed: John Playford. "A brief introduction to the playing on the viol" and "The art of descant or Composing of musick in parts" have separate dated title pages; register is continuous; pagination begins anew with "The Art of descant".
