Summary:The handsome catalogue analyzes the evolution of Kalho's (b. Mexico) unique style and how photography, folkart, early 20th century painting, Pre-Columbian art, religion and science influenced her art. Shows a fantastic colonial painting of two women with very similar to her modern interpretation of two Fridas. The exhibition presents a good number of Kahlo's paintings, drawings, watercolors, sketches and prints created from 1925 to 1951, along the works by artists and photographers that with her contributed to the artistic renaissance of post revolutionary Mexico: Diego Rivera, Rufino Tamayo, Hermenegildo Bustos, Jose Maria Velasco, Jose Guadalupe Posada, Guillermo Kahlo, Mardonio Magaña, Adolfo Best Maugard, Lucienne Block, Manuel Alvarez Bravo, and the Casasola brothers among others. The exhibition includes Diego Rivera's preparatory sketches for the now destroyed mural "Sueño de paz, pesadilla de guerra". A Beautifully researched and presented catalogue.
