Summary: | This collection of 20 documents describes the Lower Egypt Predynastic tradition from 7000-5000 BP. Wetterstrom provides an overview. The archaeological evidence for settlements mainly consists of a series of pits that represent ephemeral habitation structures, storage or refuse pits, and burials. Work at three sites predominates: the cemetery and salvage excavations at Heliopolis, the settlement of El Omari, and the settlement and cemetery of Maadi at Wadi Digla. Four of the documents are written in German and 16 in English with occasional quotes or sections in German or French.
