Summary:A special exhibition of the bienal of the work of Francisco Matto (b. Montevideo, Uruguay, 1911-1995). Matto remains one of the greatest enigmas of the School of the South and of Latin American abstract art in general. As one of the few students of Torres-García to stay in Montevideo all his life and not have an international career, his work has suffered from a lack of understanding. This exhibition is the first comprehensive overview of his career, bringing together artwork from three continents. Matto was the most deeply influenced by Pre-Columbian art of all of Torres-García's students.
