Summary: | A major research study on the history and architecture of the former academic art school "Academia de San Carlos", and now the National School of Plastic Arts of the UNAM. The study is based on 130 unedited photographs taken between 1897 and 1940 that graphically document the neoclassic building and its decorative elements, the art masterpieces exhibited in its galleries and the academic and artistic life of the first art school in the Americas. It was and is one of the major learning institutions for art in Mexico. Includes reproductions of photographs taken by Manuel Buenbad, Efisio Caboni, Antonio Garduño, Agustín Jimenez, José C. Damian, Manuel F. Alvarez, Petronilo Monroy and many more.
