Summary:	Practioners of an ancient religion called marapu on the eastern Indonesian island of Sumba, challenge the spirits to restore their village after fire and famine through a week of offerings, prayers, dancing, and sacrifices. Conflicts about ceremonial protocal reflect changes in the pagan community that took place in the 1980s due to government pressure, conversions to Christianity, and inter-generational tensions.
