| Summary: | Set in 1829 in Bengal, India, the savage practice of Sati (a widow immolating herself on her husband's funeral pyre) has been banned, but not quite abolished. The film is set on the theme of this practice. A poor man's young daughter is married off to a dying, but rich, old man. The woman is forced to die under circumstances and social pressure.
