Summary:Nina Paley combines a personal relationship-gone-wrong story with an adaptation of the Indian epic, the Ramayana. Nina is an animator in San Francisco whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Animated characters done in the style of traditional Indian shadow puppets narrate the tragicomic storylines, with Sita's singing voice represented by 1920's-era recordings of jazz performer Annette Hanshaw.
