The 1st-7th selections originally released in 1960 as Swingin' with Pee Wee (Prestige/Swingville: 2008); the 8th -16th selections originally released (in 1958?) as Portrait of Pee Wee (Counterpoint: 565). The first of these was reissued (in 1969?) as The Pee Wee Russell memorial album (Prestige 7672). Notes from these three releases, by Nat Hentoff, Dan Morgenstern, and Charles Edward Smith, are reproduced as accompanying material (1 folded sheet ([10] p.)).
In the 1st-7th selections: Pee Wee Russell, clarinet ; Buck Clayton, trumpet ; Tommy Flanagen, piano ; Wendell Marshall, bass ; Osie Johnson, drums. In the 8th-16th selections: Pee Wee Russell, clarinet ; Ruby Braff, trumpet ; Bud Freeman, tenor saxophone ; Vic Dickenson, trombone ; Nat Pierce, piano ; Tommy Potter, bass ; Karl Kiffe, drums.
Recorded at Van Gelder Studio, Englewood Cliffs, N.J., Mar. 29, 1960 (1st-7th selections) and in New York City, Feb. 18-19, 1958 (remainder).
