Summary:The purpose of Integrative Biology of Women's Health is to discuss and identify perspective areas from basic science to clinical interventions that are critical to the future of women's health. As of now there are critical knowledge gaps that exist in our understanding of physiological and cellular function in women that make the prediction of responses to specific interventions daunting. From a scientific evolution of understanding, the existence of research focused on women's health is relatively new and thus there has not been enough time for new information to integrate itself into our current scientific thought process. This book seeks to capture and disseminate our current understanding of scientific advancements relevant to women's health and provide the information to a broad audience. The scientific community has made significant advancements in understanding the unique aspects of women's health in multiple different tissues. Within this book leading researchers in three key areas: skeletal-muscle-bone function, metabolic function, and cardiovascular function have contributed chapters to enlighten or encourage new avenues of thought that would benefit women. The reader will be exposed to a wide range of experimental approaches including physiological, biochemical, molecular techniques in an effort to provide a comprehensive discussion about the biology of women's health.
